Like other states, the handicrafts are highly rich in quality and brilliantly underrated authentic forms, these handicrafts are a very small but a very solid part of the state’s income which also showcases the reminiscence of the Chola & Pandya dynasties. The vivid handicrafts are:
- Sikkalnayakanpet – Hand-Painted Sarees and mats
- Pattamadai (weaving form) – Mats of grass & silk, korai grass shopping bags, place mats, runners, office folders etc. This was originated from Pattamadai village in Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu.
- Chola Bronzes (craft of iron)
- Tajore Gold Leaf painting
- Papier Mache
- Musical instruments made up of Bamboo, Sandalwood, Bronze, Sengaali and Karungaali
- Stone craft – Granite and Soapstone sculptures made for both religious and secular, Garden lights, Name plates.
- Kanchipuram Saris – Silk saris which weavers claim descent from Sage Markanda have distinctive designs such as sun, moon, swans, peacocks and more, woven into the body in gold thread and characteristic contrast borders.
- Pottery – Figures of Deities and Toys Glazed in Green or Gold colours, Water Jugs, Tea and Dinner Sets, Ashtrays, Flower Vases and Animal Figures made as Paperweights.
