Meghalaya is considered one of the most beautiful states and is famous for its art of weaving from bamboo, cane, silk, wool, cotton. The art and craft of the state showcases its tribal heritage. The Khasi tribe is famous for weaving cane items such as baskets, mats, chairs. Tlieng mat weaved by the Khasi tribe is known for its durability. Meghum Khoks, beautiful baskets used for storage are weaved by the Garo tribes. The Garo tribes also weave colourful dresses called ‘Dhakmanda’. The Jaintia tribe are skilled at making bamboo fishing nets. The other art forms of Meghalaya are silk weaving, musical instruments, wood carving, ornaments, fine applique work, embroideries, and Pineapple fibre craft.
