MANIPUR

Handicrafts are an important source of income in most of the households of Manipur. The artisans are highly skilled and create amazing crafts that provide a glimpse into their rich heritage. Kuana crafts are mats and cushions made from Kuana (type of reed). These crafts are famous and sought after in the domestic and international markets. The women are experts in loin loom weaving known as Laichampi (cotton cloth). Hand block printing is another popular craft in Manipur, which includes block printing on towels (Khamen Chatpa), pillow covers, bed sheets, dresses and other products. The pottery items in Manipur are produced from a unique coil technique, the artisans are skilled in making black and ceramic pottery. The other handicrafts from the state are Manipuri dance doll, Cane and bamboo work, wood carvings, Papier Mache, Decorative ivory.
