The diverse handicrafts of Karnataka portray its rich, royal and traditional heritage. The crafts have evolved through ages. Mysore, the Heritage city, is famous for its silk sarees, the Mysore silk is considered one of the smoothest in the country. The Mysore Paintings are one of the oldest forms of art of Karnataka which date back to Ajanta era. The doll making is a favourite amongst the locals, the dolls are made from soft wood and vegetable dyes. Stone carvings is another craft form, the skills can be seen in the sculptures of Gods & Goddesses in the temples across the state. Sandalwood Carvings, Metal ware, Ivory carving, Bidriware and leather items are the other crafts found in Karnataka.
